A Bit About Moles...
The European Mole, or Common Mole is a subterrainean mammal that lives in tunnel systems, which it constantly extends. The displaced earth is then pushed to the surface forming the distinctive 'molehills'. It's within these tunnels that it hunts it's prey which is mainly earthworms although, as well as earthworms moles will, and do feed on insects, centipedes, mice, and shews.
While moles are typically found within tunnel systems, they are not 'exclusively' underground dwellers. In the spring and early summer young moles leave their mother’s burrows and must find a territory of their own. The young moles can either make new tunnel systems or enter existing systems and while solitary, they are not as solitary as people think. They often share the main runs under hedges and fences, but will defend their own territories aggressively. Territories however, often overlap and this is why when a mole is caught or vacates its territory another mole can, and will quickly move into the vacated territory.
Why Control Moles?..
Moles are the proverbial 'Pain In The Grass' for homeowners, greenkeepers, groundstaff, and farmers. As well as the obvious signs of damage, being the molehills they create, they cause alot of damage below ground to ponds, pools, driveways, paths, and shallow foundations.
While molehills are unsightly for homeowners, they are an absolute no, no on golf courses and sports fields.
On agicultural land however, these have a more devestating effect as the soil from them can ruin silage costing the farmer thousands of pounds as a result.
Effective mole control is the best way to deal with this problem and Yorkshire Mole Control can provide the solution.
